February 2014 Recap

By the numbers:
Stories out at the beginning of the month: 5
Acceptances received: 0
Rejections received: 2 +1
Stories withdrawn: 0
Resubmissions: 3
New Submissions: 0
Stories out at the end of the month: 5

The numbers haven’t changed much, as I’m ending the month with the same five stories out there as I had at the beginning of the month. I discovered that another of my stories never made it to the publisher (oddly, sent on the same day that the other lost story was sent), but in this case, the issue I was submitting for had already closed to submissions. So I sent it out to a different market instead.

I have gotten really close to finishing two short stories. One of them is out to a beta reader, and then will be ready to start submitting after I make any needed tweaks. The other will sit for a few more days before I make some revisions and send it out to readers. So here’s hoping that in a month, I’ll be reporting seven stories in circulation… or maybe an acceptance or two!

I’ve also just started thinking about another new story, which I might be able to finish in March. But there are a number of things conspiring against getting much writing done. We just closed submissions for our next quarterly edition of Mad Scientist Journal, so we have a lot of slush to read. We’re also halfway through our Kickstarter, and will be opening for submissions for that in mid-March, after the Kickstarter ends. And I’ve also got prep to do for AmberCon US, in April. Oh, and I’m prepping to vend at Norwescon in April. When I put all that in a list, I suddenly feel a whole lot busier than I thought I was!
