History That Never Was

It’s almost May (or, in the words of the meme, “It’s gonna be May”), and that means it’s time for MerMay!

If you’re not familiar with MerMay, it’s an art challenge started by Tom Bancroft. Every day in May, artists are encouraged to use the prompts for a sketch, which they then post using hashtags of #mermay and #mermay2022 (this year). Of course, me being me, I use the MerMay prompts as writing prompts, and you can too!

So for this month, the first column of words is the official MerMay prompts. The second column is from Clever Fox Studios, and the third column is from Sari Phantom. I’ve also got a cool mermaid photo here that you can use for an inspiration as well!

There are a couple of places where there’s a repeated word because I’m using three lists; you can find those by looking for the italicized words in the table below. When you run across one of those, it’s up to you if you want to use the duplicated words on both of the days where they show up, or perhaps work on a piece that uses that word across both the days where that word comes up. Or you can even ignore the duplicates! (Though I know I won’t, because PIRATES!)
