Fun For Friday: Using Short Writing Exercises for a Novel

This article has some neat ideas for short writing exercises that can help with novel writing. Though they call them “flash fiction” exercises, I think they are more meant to be done in a short period of time than to produce actual flash fiction.

For those who are doing NaNoWriMo next month, they could provide good warm-up exercises to do this month, in preparation for your novel. Or if you’re just desperate for words one day (we’ve all been there), try one of these exercises to get things moving! Maybe you can use it in the novel, and maybe not, but at least it’s words! And even if they eventually get cut, they may give you the ideas you need to flesh out something else within the novel!
