June 2020 Recap

The elusive 10-foot-long snek-cat worms through the chair to sleep.

By the numbers:
Stories out at the beginning of the month: 129
Acceptances received: 1
Rejections received: 58
Stories withdrawn: 0
Resubmissions: 32
New Submissions: 0
Stories out at the end of the month: 102

Numbers are down this month, both because I didn’t get a lot of rejections, but also because I’ve been pulling some stories and poems to put them into collections, which generally means fewer submissions. I also haven’t been as diligent about getting things out there. I had once acceptance in June, and that is “For the Weird Girls Who Want to Be Mermaids,” which will appear in Orca in a couple of weeks.

I’m still working on the two short stories I hoped to finish this month (they’re both drafted, just not revised yet), as well as the essays for Unfixed Timelines 2. But I’ve been chugging away on the art for my children’s book, I’ve sent out more queries for Briar, and wrote some book and comic book reviews. And I have What If I’m a Merfolk pretty much ready to roll in August!

In July, I’ve got a lot to do:

  • Revise fae
  • Start revising dresses
  • Write Marsh 3
  • Work on wolf
  • Write the last three UT2 essays
  • Proofread all the essays and compile essays and stories for UT2
  • July writing challenge (daily)
  • July flash fiction contest (1 piece)
  • Query agents for Briar
  • Start edits on Lady Huntsman novella

Whew!
