April 2020 Recap
That time I put an AR penguin in our kitchen because I couldn’t believe how tall he was!

As work from home has become more and more regularized for me, I’ve felt like my downtime has shrunk away to nothingness. Or maybe it’s a factor of increased gaming and online socializing. At any rate, I was quite slow on the submissions this month! I did finish up a bunch of new poems and two flash pieces, but that didn’t quite make a difference in the numbers. I withdrew one story, had three more that were never responded to, and one that the market lost. And another market closed, which meant my submissions there were returned. I did have one acceptance, which squeaked in on the last day of April, so I haven’t seen the contract for it yet. I’ll announce it once I have signed that.
In April, I sent out more queries for briar (no bites yet), finished my edits on Lady Huntsman and sent that out to beta readers, revised my contest poems and some of my contest flash, and wrote the planned new story and book reviews. I decided to turn Pumpkin Planet (formerly a very short flash piece) into a poem instead of a novel (weird how that worked out), and haven’t quite started outlining my next next planned book yet. And I haven’t poked at the Unfixed Timelines 2 research yet, but it looks like I’ll have to do it online.
In May, I plan to:
- Sent out more briar queries
- Outline my next novel (Val 1)
- Start writing Val 1
- Revise three stories (flash and short)
- Research and write four essays for Unfixed Timelines 2
- Write a book review
It looks a little lighter than my schedule has been in the past, but that seems to be the reality of what seems feasible right now. I’m glad to be staying healthy, even if I’m not writing as much because of it.
