February 2020 Recap

My young apprentice is learning the ways of writing and editing.

By the numbers:
Stories out at the beginning of the month: 159
Acceptances received: 3
Rejections received: 86
Stories withdrawn: 3 (+2)
Resubmissions: 79
New Submissions: 1
Stories out at the end of the month: 144

February was slightly slower than normal on the number of rejections I received and the number of resubmissions that I made as a result. But I had three acceptances this month, two poems and one flash fiction piece! The poems were “Elemental Crisis,” which will appear in Terraforming Earth for Aliens later this year, and “Schrodinger’s Tardigrades,” which appears in the February issue of Star*Line (which is not available to purchase yet). The story was “Dakota Travis, Saurallero Extraordinaire,” which appeared at Intrinsick.

I finished and submitted one new story this month, while also writing a lot of first drafts, so there will be more new submissions in the coming months.

In February, I finished my revisions to briar, though I’m still working on getting it ready to go out on submission. I haven’t started on the Lady Huntsman novella edits yet. I backburnered the airship story, but I did start working on the hostile AI story. And I wrote my other flash pieces, though I haven’t managed any revisions on those yet. Oh, and I also wrote a short piece over the course of a single weekend, though that also needs revisions! A lot of things have been put off due to some editing work that I’ve been doing, and also just a need to slow down my pace a bit more due to being extra busy at work in February, and not having a lot of brain capacity left in the evenings.

For March, I plan to:

  • Finish the synopsis and query letter for briar and start querying agents
  • Start editing the Lady Huntsman novella
  • Participate in a weekly poetry contest (4 new poems)
  • Finish writing hostile AI
  • Start writing wolf story
  • Revise moon story
  • Revise two flash pieces
  • Start essay research for Unfixed Timelines 2
  • Finish edits on my current hired project
  • Write a book review

That’s a lot, but I can do it!
