May 2017 recap

By the numbers:
Stories out at the beginning of the month: 15
Acceptances received: 0
Rejections received: 14
Stories withdrawn: 0
Resubmissions: 20
New Submissions: 0
Stories out at the end of the month: 23

Pretty standard month on the submissions front. The big change is that with the publication of Unfixed Timelines (live tomorrow!), I’ve put a handful of stories that are collected there back into circulation as reprints. There are some markets that aren’t interested in reprints that are available elsewhere, but other markets are totally fine with this. So it’s just a matter of checking the submission guidelines carefully! I’m also holding one story currently, as it’s a flash reprint, and there aren’t a lot of markets for those–specifically, nothing great for it right now. But many magazines open up at the beginning of a new month, so I’m hoping to get that one back out there soon. I also have the rights reverting on another story as of tomorrow, so that one will go back into circulation as well.

In May, I reviewed a book, interviewed an author, finished writing stamps, and got Unfixed Timelines all pulled together. I didn’t get as far as I’d hoped to on B&G2, and AustenWorld went to the backburner. But I started and finished the first draft of a brand new story (which I’ll call “tour” here) and started another new story (“burn”). I’ve also finished reading another collection of short stories, which I’ll be reviewing shortly, and lined up some other books for reviews.

So in June, the plans are:

  1. Write through chapter 14 of B&G 2 (which is 5 1/2 chapters from where I’m at now).
  2. Finish first draft of burn.
  3. Resume writing arcology.
  4. Revise stamps and submit.
  5. Revise tour and submit.
  6. Revise C&C in preparation for self-publishing.
  7. Write two book reviews; read another book for later review.

When you put it that way, it looks pretty daunting! But here’s hoping I can stay on track!
