April was a strangely slow month. I did finish one new story and got that started in circulation. I also got an acceptance, which I’ll talk more about later, after the contract is signed. I withdrew one story that hadn’t been responded to in well over 8 months. I had a couple of rejections come in on Saturday and was too busy to get those back out, so they’ll be heading out this morning.
I started working on a new novel (briar), but after writing about 1/10th of it, I realized that I was way too busy in April to make good progress on it. May looks similarly hectic, so I may have to save this for June/July when things are more quiet for me. Instead of working on that, I started writing a new Cobalt City story (codename: rain), and I’m working on revisions to my middle reader book. I had originally hoped to find an agent for that book, but I’ve ultimately decided that I’d prefer to self publish it. It’s an awkward length for publishers, but for self publishing, there’s no such restriction!
In May, I’m planning to finish the first draft of “rain,” and pick back up with “blues,” which I started last year. The latter is a story I liked, but I was having a hard time shaping it to fit the mold that a specific call for submissions had. Now that I’m not working within those constraints, I think it’ll work much better.
