July 2015 recap

By the numbers:
Stories out at the beginning of the month: 15
Acceptances received: 1
Rejections received: 19
Stories withdrawn: 0
Resubmissions: 21
New Submissions: 2
Stories out at the end of the month: 18

Another month of really good submission numbers! I was able to get one story that had been sitting idle back into circulation, and I finished two new stories (demon and occult, the latter of which is actually a novella) and got them started on their rounds. I have a new acceptance, too, but I’m waiting until the contract is signed to announce it.

I actually finished the revisions to occult early, which was nice. And I finished the revisions to team up as well. Now it’s just waiting for one more set of eyes to pass over it before I’m ready to put together my collection of stories!

While I had planned to finish monkey! and write booze, both of those stories got back burnered. I don’t have a strong need to finish monkey! right now, as it’s not something that I’m likely to submit to markets at the moment. And booze got back burnered because I found out about a new call for stories and had an idea of what to write for it. So that story, which I’m calling “witches,” is about 3/4 of the way done instead.

My plans for August include finishing both monkey! and witches (man, I feel like I’m on the set of Wizard of Oz all of a sudden), writing a new story that I’m calling “machine,” and starting a new story that I’m calling “boat.” I also plan on starting the revisions on monkey! and witches, and then I get to tackle the next big project: revising/enlarging a full length novel that I’m calling “pirates.” That project will take several months, and then it’ll only really be a full first draft, since I realized how horrifyingly short it is at the moment!

I’m about to embark on a little girls’ weekend with my sisters, my mom, and my niece. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to get some writing done, but I’m specifically NOT taking my laptop. I will take some printed out copies of things I’m working on, just in case. But I may decide that playing in the water with my niece is a higher priority. Just as long as we’ve got plenty of sunscreen–we are mightily pale in our family!
