October recap

It’s a couple of days before October ends, but I’m not going to be able to update on Wednesday, so I may as well do it now when I have a minute!

By the numbers:
Stories out at the beginning of the month: 3
Acceptances received: 0
Rejections received: 2 (+1)
Resubmissions: 3
New Submissions: 1
Stories out at the end of the month: 4

The +1 under rejections is because I had one rejection that wasn’t. The anthology that the story was planned for didn’t pan out, so the story came back to me, not technically rejected. So it’s back into the mix of stories to submit.

And I finally had a new story done to submit! Woo hoo! It’s only one of the stories that I finished in September; the other keeps getting delayed as I try to figure out what I’m really trying to do with it. I’m really not sure how I want it to end, but I know that the first ending that I wrote wasn’t right. So it’s sort of back in the “still a draft” stage of things.

My NaNo plotting seems to be pretty close to done. I keep adding more character names to my spreadsheet, but this is mainly so that I can check for similar names. I have a LOT of characters in my novel, you see. The spreadsheet has more, because it has a whole bunch of people (more than half) who aren’t going to survive the first chapter or two. But so as to not cause confusion, I need to make sure that the names for all of the soon-to-be-not-in-the-novel characters don’t sound too similar to the surviving characters.

I’m planning to do some updates during NaNo, which will hopefully be more coherent than “I have written X words,” or “askghweharsghhuio” (keyboard smash). We’ll see how that goes, of course.
