September recap

Huh, September ended when I wasn’t looking! So here’s the recap, a few days late!

By the numbers
Stories out at the beginning of the month: 4
Acceptances received: 0
Rejections received: 3
Resubmissions: 2
New Submissions: 0
Stories out at the end of the month: 3

Numbers are a bit down this month because I’ve been heavily reworking one of my stories that had been making the submission rounds. I identified some big problems with it, so I started a massive overhaul, which isn’t finished yet. I’m not even sure that the story starts at the place where I have it starting now–it may end up being all new by the time I get done with it!

What the numbers don’t reflect is that I actually finished writing two stories in September! But one of them is still under revisions, and the other one is stewing a little longer before I work on revisions for it. But this is good, because it puts another couple of stories into the submission mix soon (the goal is to have them both ready to go out before the end of October).

I’m already thinking about NaNoWriMo, which I’m hoping I will be able to do and WIN this year. This will be my fourth year, but only my second win (if I manage it). The first year, it was all shiny and new and exciting, and I wrote like the wind. The second year (when I tried to do short stories) was the year of the hubbie’s gall bladder attack and subsequent craziness. I got one (published!) story out of that, but it was maybe 4,000 words. And last year, I scrapped my idea on the first day and switched to a different book. Which is well on the way to done NOW, but it’s less than 30,000 words.

So yeah, this month is about revising two stories, finishing the heavy revisions to the old story, and working on an outline and character stuff for NaNo. Probably won’t get a whole ton of new words written, but hopefully there will be enough revisions that I don’t feel bad for not getting high numbers of new words written!
