Not much action on this front, really. I haven’t finished a new short story since February, so it’s pretty much just been a cycle of submit, wait for response, repeat, with the occasional revision after the response. It’s not an ideal process, sadly.
But my goal of getting a short story done this month didn’t end up happening. I wrote about half of the story, but I just kept getting bogged down in the details of that half. I think I was spending too much time worrying about the quality of what I was writing in the first draft, and not enough time about getting words on paper. Definitely a problem.
I’ve shifted around my plans for the coming months, and put all of the short stories on the back burner in order to focus on writing the new novella, making revisions to the old novella, and getting ready for NaNo. I may even start tracking daily word count soon, like I do for NaNo. It does seem to keep me on track when I do that.
I brainstormed a chunk of the new novella with my hubbie while we drove across the Badlands in South Dakota on Saturday and through Nebraska on Sunday. He was brainstorming his NaNo (yes, already), so I helped him out with that as well. We’ve both got a bit more research to do, but not a ton. Soon, there may be nothing but the sounds of typing (and occasional meowing when we don’t pay enough attention to the cats) coming from our apartment!
